O'Connell and Keleher Break Indoor School Records at the Wheaton College Invitational Meet

NORTON, Mass. – The Colby-Sawyer women's track and field team competed in the Wheaton Invitational hosted by Wheaton College on Saturday. Senior Shannon O'Connell (Peabody, Mass.) highlighted the meet along with junior Ashley Keleher (Mashpee, Mass.) who each had record breaking performances.

Rapid Recap:
  • O'Connell had an impressive day for the Chargers after running the 3,000-meter race in 10:52.90 to secure sixth place. She now holds the indoor school record for the event after breaking the previous time set by Kylee Parker in 2017 by 0.04 seconds.
  • Keleher continued to smash records at the Wheaton meet breaking the 60-meter, 200-meter and triple jump indoor school records. She came in sixth place in the 60-meter dash with a time of 8.27 which is 0.02 seconds better than her time set at the Plymouth State Winter Classic. Keleher improved on her previous 200-meter dash record that was also set during the Plymouth State Winter Classic meet. She placed second overall in the race with a time of 27.41, over half a second faster than her time at the beginning of the season. To top off a successful day, Keleher placed first in the triple jump event with a mark of 10.62 meters breaking yet another Colby-Sawyer record. She passes the triple jump record set by Macy Lapan back in 2019 at the Smith College meet and now holds a total of five indoor track & field records. 
  • Sophomore Heather Hanson (Barnstable, Mass.) came in 10th place after finishing the 800-meter race in 2:37.27. Following closely behind her was sophomore Tessa Millette (Barrington, N.H.) securing 11th place with a time of 2:37.
  • In the one-mile run, first year Adriana Nadeau (Londonderry, N.H.) was the top finisher for the Chargers coming in sixth place with a time of 6:13.25. Right behind her was first year Leah O'Neill taking seventh place and first year Molly Macklin (Hudson, N.H.) placing nineth in the event.
  • In the field events, junior Faith Mazzapica (Tewksbury, Mass.) competed in the weight throw event placing 10th overall with a throw of 9.84 meters. She also competed in the shot-put event earning nineth place with a mark of 7.49 meters.
Up Next:
The Colby-Sawyer indoor track and field team will return to Plymouth State University to compete in the Panther Invitational II on Saturday, February 4th.
