NEW LONDON, N.H. – The Colby-Sawyer women's basketball team won their third consecutive Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) contest against Lasell University by a 60-56 final.
Rapid Recap:
- The Chargers trailed early 5-0, but back-to-back buckets by first year Elyza Mitchell (Spofford, N.H.) and senior Emily Parent (Oakland, Maine). The Lasers continued to lead 9-4, but a closing layup from senior Lia Raynowska (Brentwood, N.H.) put the Chargers within three points.
- Colby-Sawyer knotted up the game quickly as sophomore Megan Molettieri (Pelham, N.H.) knocked down a three and after a Lasell bucket the Chargers punched hard with a 10-0 run highlighted by threes by Parent and sophomore Marissa Holt (Alfred, Maine). Sophomore Gabby Lucertini (Branford, Conn.) picked up another jumper to push the lead to nine points but a Lasers jumper cut the deficit to 22-15 at the end of the half.
- Lasell University went on a 8-1 run out of the break to quickly tie the game at 23-23. A 10-1 counter by the Chargers sparked by seven points from sophomore Courtney Brewster (Castleton, Vt.) pushed the lead back 33-24. The Lasers made one final push getting the game back to 35-30 headed into the fourth quarter.
- The Chargers came out flying in the fourth taking a 18 point advantage after a 12-0 run highlighted by a pair of threes by Lucertini and Holt. The Lasers countered with a 7-0 spurt to cut the deficit to just 11. Holt free throws kept the lead at 13, but a 9-0 counter over a minute cut the lead to just four points with 2:05 to play. Colby-Sawyer would hang on using eight free throws to close out the win.
Player Spotlight:
"We just had to play five as one", said sophomore
Gabby Lucertini (Branford, Conn.). "Everyone put trust in each other to come through for the win. We are going to take this win and keep working hard into the next one"

- Lucertini had a stellar game for the Chargers with 12 points (3-8 FG, 2-5 3-FG, 4-6 FT), 10 rebounds, three assists and two steals. Brewster added another remarkable performance with 10 points (2-8 FG, 6-8 FT), a career-high 15 rebounds and two blocks. Holt registered 11 points (2-13 FG, 2-8 3-FG, 5-8 FT), six rebounds, while Mitchell added 11 points (3-8 FG, 0-1 3-FG, 5-13 FT) and six rebounds.
- Juju Nealy paced the Lasers with 14 points (5-14 FG, 0-4 3-FG, 4-5 FT), four assists and seven steals.
