Chargers Continue to Break School Records After Competing at Bowdoin College Invitational

BRUNSWICK, Maine – The Colby-Sawyer track and field teams competed in the Peter Slovenski Invitational hosted by Bowdoin College on Saturday, January 14th. Junior Chase Adams (Brookline, N.H.) and junior Ashley Keleher (Mashpee, Mass.) each broke school records with their impressive performances for the Chargers. 

Rapid Recap (Women):
  • After breaking two school records during the season opener, Keleher continued to rewrite her name in the record books by breaking the same two indoor records. Keleher placed third in the 60 meter dash with a time of 8.23, 0.06 seconds faster than what she ran during the Plymouth State Invitational on December 10th. She also finished in third place in the 200 meter dash clocking in at 27.52 which was 0.44 seconds quicker than the record time she set at the start of the season. 
  • In the 5,000 meter race, senior Shannon O'Connell (Peabody, Mass.) finished in first place with a time of 19:40.29. 
  • First year Emma Mullen (Cape Elizabeth, Maine) competed in the 800 meter race finishing in third place with a time of 3:10.14. Following closely behind Mullen was first year Julia Huckins (New Hampton, N.H. ) who secured fourth place with a time of 3:19.79. 
  • For field events, Keleher won the triple jump event with a mark of 10.47 meters and junior Anna Bieszczad (Grantham, N.H.) placed third with a mark of 9.38 meters.  
Rapid Recap (Men):
  • Adams highlighted for the men's team after breaking his own indoor record in the 60 meter hurdles. After setting the record on February 13th during the 2022 GNAC Indoor Track & Field Championship, he rewrote the books once again placing third in the event with a time of 8.80 which is 0.30 seconds faster than his previous record time. Adams was also a member of the 4x400 meter relay squad featuring junior Jesse Gushee (West Linn, Ore.), sophomore Hayden Goyette (Epsom, N.H. ), and first year Kyle Gassiraro finishing in first place with a time of 3:39.06. 
  • First year JJ Davis (Bradford, N.H.) placed second in the 60 meter dash with a time of 7.44. He also ran the 200 meter dash in 23.83 good for a sixth place finish. In the field events, Davis placed seventh in long jump with a mark of 5.74 meters.  
  • Sophomore Dylan Flewelling (Oakland, Maine) was the top finisher for the Chargers in the one mile race clocking in at 4:40.96. Junior Jordan Piechowski (Windham, Maine) followed behind with a time of 4:50.81 to take fifth place. 
  • Senior Dean Miller (Andover, Mass.) and junior Joesph Branchaud (Tewksbury, Mass.) each competed in the 60 meter dash securing fourth and fifth place finishes for the Chargers.  
  • In the 400 meter dash, sophomore Jonathan Platti (North Granby, Conn.) finished in fifth place with a time of 54.14. Platti also competed in the high jump event placing second with a mark of 1.50 meters. 
  • In the field events, sophomore Drew Doughty (Bedford, N.H.) earned sixth place in pole vault after getting a 3.40 meter mark. Sophomore Connor Moynihan (Tewksbury, Mass.) threw shot put for the Chargers earning fifth place with a mark of 10.10 meters.

The next meet for the Chargers will be the Branwen Smith-King Invitational at Tufts University on Saturday, January 21st.
