POTSDAM, N.Y. - The Colby-Sawyer women's soccer team faced off against Clarkson University Sunday for a matinee non-conference match. The Golden Knights improved to a 2-0 record with the 3-1 victory over the Chargers.
Rapid Recap:
- The Golden Knights wasted no time getting on the board with a quick goal from Sarah Kohls that was assisted by Angelina Fahrenkrug to take the 1-0 advantage. The Chargers responded by pushing their attack and getting off four shots but couldn't bring the score even heading into halftime.
- Early in the second half, Clarkson put pressure on Colby-Sawyer's backline with 5 shots in the opening few minutes. The pressure got to the Chargers as Kohls found the back of the net a second time in the 58th minute to double the lead. 18 minutes later the home team struck again as Emily Davis beat the Chargers keeper from Kohls to grow the lead to 3-0.
- The Chargers responded quickly as sophomore Bridget O'Connell (Peabody, Mass.) found the foot of senior Abby Hamelin (Chesterfield, N.H.) to give the visitors their lone goal on the day.
Coaches Corner:
"Clarkson was very good today and our team competed hard and put in great effort," said head coach
Anthony Cosky. "It was a very physical game, and they didn't give us any time and space on the ball.
We didn't give up and just kept pruning more and we're able to convert one of our chances. Overall, this was a very good weekend, and our team improved a lot and played some good soccer.
We are looking forward to Mount Holyoke Wednesday and starting Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) play Saturday."
Stats & Figures:
- Hamelin scored the only goal for the Chargers in the 76th minute to earn her sixth colligate goal.
