CANTON, New York - The Colby-Sawyer women's soccer team battled in their 1-0 defeat to St. Lawrence University on Saturday afternoon.
Rapid Recap:
- The Saints dominated possession with 10 shots in the first half but were unable to get by Chargers senior goalkeeper Alexis LeBreton (Bangor, Maine) who made 6 saves to keep the game scoreless going into halftime.
- Heading into the second half, the Chargers continued to battle defensively as the Saints kept up the attack. Hope Donoghue had a breakaway early in the half that resulted in a goal, but the goal would be disallowed on an offside call.
- The pressure from the Saints offensive finally produced a goal by sophomore Natalie Schock in the 62nd minute of the match to give the Saints the lead. Sophomore Emma Casey split the Chargers defensive with pass to Schock who was able to squeeze the ball by LeBreton's diving effort.
Coaches Corner:
"Today we played a tough St. Lawrence team that moved the ball well," said head coach
Anthony Cosky. "Defensively they made it tough for us to possess and play how we wanted. I thought our team did a great job making it tough for them and limiting the amount of quality chances. We competed at a high level for 90 minutes and I was very proud of our effort."
"We proved today we are capable of playing with anyone and excited about another tough challenge tomorrow."
Stats & Figures:
- The Chargers recorded eight shots during the match with five shots on target.
- Junior Sam Bishop (Windham, N.H.) was involved in the Chargers attack with two of her three shots on goal. Sophomore Bridget O'Connell (Peabody, Mass.) also contributed offensively for the Chargers with two shots.
- The Saints had a total of 18 shots with 10 on goal.
- LeBreton finished the match with nine saves only allowing the one goal after a full 90 minutes.
