NASHUA, N.H. – The Colby-Sawyer Chargers field hockey dropped their first Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) game on Wednesday falling to inner-state rival Rivier University by a 1-0 final.
Rapid Recap:
- The Raiders jumped ahead as Kayla Miles found the back of the cage assisted by Madison Bovill in the 9th minute to take an early 1-0 advantage. Sophomore Courtney Larson (Auburn, Maine) tried to give Colby-Sawyer the tie at the end of the first launching two shots, but the Raider defense blocked both attempts as the period ended. In the second quarter Rivier had two quick chances that were turned away by senior Lauren Wilkinson (Lynn, Mass.). Senior Aoife Daly (Harwich, Mass.) and Larson each had shots stopped before the half ended with the deficit still at 1-0.
- In the third quarter neither team put a shot on target as the Chargers and Raiders headed into the fourth. Colby-Sawyer tried to even the score in the final quarter, but all six shots were either turned away or wide as Rivier University pulled out the upset.
Notes & Notables:
- Wilkinson picks up the loss stopping three shots bringing her record to 7-3 this season.
- The Chargers only mustered six shots on target with Daly leading the way with a pair of shots on the cage.
- First year Cecilia Ponzini (Windham, N.H.) had a big game off the bench in a reserve role making a big impact in the midfield.
