Chargers Get Back to Winning Ways in 6-0 Defeat of Anna Maria College

NEW LONDON, N.H. – The Chargers field hockey team picked up a bounce back win on Wednesday afternoon defeating Anna Maria College by a 6-0 final on Sally Shaw Veitch Track & Field.

Rapid Recap: 
  • The Chargers attacked quickly as first year Kate Cochran (North Sutton, N.H.) found sophomore Emma Webster (Campton, N.H.) at the post to give Colby-Sawyer a 1-0 lead six minutes into the game. The Chargers continued to score as senior Calie Sorenson (Sandwich, Mass.) found the back of the cage on a pass from first year Cecilia Ponzini (Windham, N.H.) at the 8:43 mark of the first quarter to double the lead at 2-0. The offense continued later in the 12th minute as sophomore Alyssa Slocum (Windsor, Vt.) picked up her first collegiate goal with a rocket past the keeper with a helper to Cochran. Senior Bella Silva (Danvers, Mass.) put an exclamation point on a big first quarter picking up her second goal of the season on a pass from junior Aleah Murph (Portland, Maine) with seven seconds to spare in the quarter. 
  • In the fourth quarter the offense picked back up as first year Taylor Gaudette (North Conway, N.H.) found sophomore Destiny Cruz (Fall River, Mass.) for her second tally of the year. Gaudette got on the scoreboard six minutes later as Cruz returned the favor for an assist to end the scoring. 
Player Spotlight:

"I think it was very important win today", said senior Bella Silva (Danvers, Mass.). "We came together and talked about it as a team to collect ourselves and start working as a team again. It is really important to work together and we did that today and played really strong to pickup a big GNAC win.)

Stats & Figures:
  • Cruz and Gaudette led the scoring for the Chargers with a goal and an assist a piece. Webster, Silva, Slocum and Sorenson added the other scores for the home team.
  • Cochran led the passing with a pair of assists, with Ponzini and Murph each adding a helper. 
  • Senior Lauren Wilkinson (Lynn, Mass.) picked up the win with 15 minutes of action. Sophomore Carly Bernard (Swanze, N.H.) finished the game with 45 clean minutes.
  • The Chargers outshot the AMCATS by a 26-0 margin with 17 shots on target and 11 penalty corners.
Up next: 
The Chargers head on the road to face off with Simmons University for a 11 AM start on Saturday.
