NEW LONDON, N.H. – First year
Taylor Gaudette (North Conway, N.H.) has made history in her first collegiate year at Colby-Sawyer as today she scored a program-record four goals for another school record eight points. The Chargers finished the game with a final score of 8-0 against the University of Maine - Farmington to end the weekend outscoring opponents 13-0.
Rapid Recap:
- The Chargers attacked quickly as Gaudette scored at just 3:14 of the fourth quarter on an assist by senior Aoife Daly (Harwich, Mass.). The Chargers doubled the score on a penalty corner as sophomore Courtney Larson (Auburn, Maine) found the stick of Gaudette for the fancy finish. Colby-Sawyer wasn't done in the first quarter as junior Aleah Murph (Portland, Maine) stepped up in the lane and rocketed a ball past the diving Beavers keeper for the goal.
- In the second quarter the Chargers continued to attack launching nine shots on the cage in the 15 minute span. Colby-Sawyer got the lead to 4-0 as Murph found Gaudette for the first-collegiate hat trick of the first years' career.
- In the third quarter Murph found Gaudette again to give Taylor the first four goal game in Colby-Sawyer field hockey history in the 32nd minute. The Chargers weren't done as senior Bella Silva (Danvers, Mass.) found the back of the cage from a post finish on a pass from first year Abigail Hanney (Salem, Conn.). Less than a minute later Hanney got her turn to fire and score giving the Chargers a 7-0 lead headed into the fourth quarter.
- The Beavers started the fourth quarter on offense getting three shots on senior Lauren Wilkinson (Lynn, Mass.) who turned them all away to keep the zero on the board. Sophomore Destiny Cruz (Fall River, Mass.) ended the Chargers scoring with the eighth of the day as first year Cecilia Ponzini (Windham, N.H.) picked up her first collegiate point with the assist.
Player Spotlight:
"It is awesome to get four goals today, but it was a team effort and I wouldn't want to be anywhere else", said first year
Taylor Gaudette (North Conway, N.H.). "We are just going to continue to bring the intensity we have been and when we get on the field we are going to enjoy every second."
Notes & Notables:
- Gaudette's record setting four goals puts her above eight Chargers tied with three goals, which last happened by Daly on September 8, 2021 against Keene State College last season. The eight points by Gaudette narrowly edges Paige Viens seven points which took place on September 10, 2016 against Bay Path College.
- Wilkinson's four save shutout pushes the goalie to second all-time in shutouts in program history passing Abby Ladd.
- The Chargers out shot the Beavers by a 35-4 margin with a 28-4 advantage in shots on target. Colby-Sawyer added the advantage in corners 12-3.
