Men's Volleyball Takes a Hit in Loss to Rivier Raiders

NEW LONDON, N.H. – The Colby-Sawyer men's volleyball team dropped yet another Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) match, this time to the Raiders of Rivier University, with a final match score of 3-0 on Tuesday night in the Dan and Kathleen Hogan Sports Center.

Rapid Recap:
  • The night's first set saw the Chargers score 16 to the opposing Raiders 25. Senior Orlando Plagata (Los Angeles, Calif.) opened the set with a kill from helper Lucas Lizotte (Hampstead, N.H.). The Chargers would then keep the Raiders at arm's reach with a 5-4 score until a five-point run from the Raiders made the difference. From there, Rivier held the lead to take set one from the Chargers.
  • An attacking error from the opposing side gave the Chargers the 1-0 lead to start the second set. After some back and forth, Rivier would then take the lead again. Stuck at seven, the Chargers remained scoreless as the raiders went on a nine-point run to set the score 21-7. Colby-Sawyer scored three more, but not in time as the Raiders took set two, 25-10.
  • Graduate student Andrew Kovacs (Wellesley, Mass.) opened the third set with a forceful kill with help from Lizotte. The Raiders would then take the lead for the last time on the night, bringing the score to 21-10. The Chargers would then go on a nice four-point run with four back-to-back kills from first-year Isaac Davies (Hinesburg, Vt.), senior Eric Miller (La Grange, Ill.), and two from Plagata. Despite their efforts, the Chargers dropped the final and closest set of the night with a score of 25-19.
Notes & Notables:
  • Leading the Chargers with nine kills was Plagata. He also collected one dig on the night and nine total conference points.
  • Lizotte continued to provide for the team, earning 22 assists and one kill with two digs.
  • Tonight's loss would bring the Charger's overall record to 4-17, with a 1-12 GNAC record.
