Box Score WESTON, Mass. – The Colby-Sawyer men's basketball team fought hard at Regis College on Tuesday Night falling by a 66-59 margin.
Rapid Recap:
- The Pride jumped ahead early taking a quick 6-0 lead before first year Kevin Cummings (Portsmouth, N.H.) stopped the run knocking down a triple and cutting the lead in half. The Chargers used a pair of buckets including a junior Zack Caraballo (Salem, N.H.) driving layup to cut the Regis lead to 10-9.
- The Chargers tied the game at 13-13 after senior Deondre Smith (Garland, Texas) hit a pull hump jumper from the free throw line, while drawing the whistle. Smith's free throw came up short and the Chargers quickly fell behind by a pair of buckets. The lead ballooned to 26-18 before Colby-Sawyer answered back with a pair of buckets including a beautiful step-back by junior Omar Boone (Colorado City, Texas). The score would stay 26-22 heading into the break with the Chargers not registering a lead in the first 20 minutes of game action.
- The second half started with a surge from the Chargers scoring six-straight including back to back layups by junior Scott Lampron (Concord, N.H.). The Pride continued to keep the Chargers from taking the lead countering with an 8-0 run to jump the lead to 38-30. Both teams continued to battle trading buckets with a Boone jumper to trim the lead to 52-46 heading into the final 7:54.
- Back-to-Back staredown three-pointers by Lampron had the game tied once again with 6:15 remaining. Regis countered again as Justin Evelyn scored seven-straight points to give the Pride a 61-54 lead. Boone made a jumper late, but the Pride hit their free throws and hung on for the 66-59.
Notes & Notables:
- Lampron led the Chargers effort with 23 points (9-15 FG, 2-4 3-PT, 3-4 FT) including 19 points in the second half. Boone notched a double-double with 13 points (6-13 FG, 0-2 3-PT, 1-2 FT) and 10 rebounds.Caraballo and Kelly each added six points and six rebound a piece.
- Justin Evelyn led the Pride with 20 points and five rebounds while Marc Trinidad added 16 points and 11 rebounds.
- The key to the game was the three-point shooting with Regis connecting on seven triples, while the Chargers only mustered three from deep. The Pride also scored in transition at a high rate with 14 fast break points while Colby-Sawyer only had one basket on the fast break.
