NEW LONDON, N.H. – The Colby-Sawyer Chargers finished off the regular season dropping their final home contest by a 67-60 margin to the Regis College Pride.
Rapid Recap:
- The Chargers started off the game right taking a 15-10 advantage thanks to an 8-0 run starred by six points from first year Marissa Holt (Alfred, Maine). Later in the quarter the lead went up to eight points after junior Emily Parent (Oakland, Maine) knocked down her second three of the game.
- In the second quarter the momentum flipped with Regis battling back to take the lead at 30-29 midway through the quarter. The Pride continued the success using an 8-3 run to close the quarter and give the Pride a 38-32 lead heading into the locker room.
- The Chargers continued to keep the game in reach with Parent netting two more triples to get the game at 48-42 and after a first year Natalie Panagrosso (Wallingford, Conn.) layup the home team trailed by only a pair of buckets. A closing jumper by first year Gabby Lucertini (Branford, Conn.) finished the third with Chargers trailing Pride 52-47 headed into the final stanza.
- The fourth quarter started with free throws as junior Lia Raynowska (Brentwood, N.H.) drew the harm and netted three of four from the line, while first year Courtney Brewster (Castleton, Vt.) split her free throws and had the game within a single point. The Pride responded with a 10-0 run to give the visitors a double-digit lead. A 5-0 counter by Colby-Sawyer had the game to within two possessions with 2:49 left.
- Another bucket by the visitors put Regis up by 64-56 margin with under 2:00 to go. Holt quickly scored back-to-back buckets to put the Chargers down four, but the Pride responded by knocking down free throws to put the game out of reach.
Notes & Notables:
- Holt was the star for Colby-Sawyer today scoring a career-high 21 points (8-17 FG, 2-2 3-PT, 3-5 FT), while also notching another double-double with 10 rebounds. Parent tallied 12 points (4-8 FG, 4-7 3-PT, 0-2 FT) to go along with four rebounds, a block and a steal. Lucertini rounded out the double-digit point scorers with 10 points (3-14 FG, 2-5 3-PT, 2-4 FT), while also grabbing seven boards and dishing out a pair of assists. Panagrosso added four points (2-6 FG), six rebounds, two assists and a pair of blocks in 25 minutes off the bench.
- Valerie Whalen led the Pride with a 13 point, 18 rebound double-double, while Pam Gonzalez led the team in scoring with 22 points.
- The Chargers shot a season-best 53.3% (8-15) from deep, but the Pride used 17 offensive rebounds and 42 points in the paint to defeat Colby-Sawyer.
