Chargers End Colby Tip-Off Classic With Loss to Colby College

WATERVILLE, Maine. –The Colby-Sawyer women's basketball team ended their Colby Tip-Off Classic with a 61-19 loss to Colby College. The Chargers are now 2-3 overall after their defeat to the Mules who improve to a 2-0 record. 

Rapid Recap: 
  • The Mules started the first quarter of the game by going on a 11-0 run that was started by Caroline Smith making both of her free throws and included two 3-pointers from Carter Mcgloon and Lydia Mordarski. Sophomore Marissa Holt (Alfred, Maine) got the Chargers on the board after making a fast break driving layup off the assist from sophomore Megan Molettieri (Pelham, N.H.). The Mules would extend their lead to 15-2 to end the first quarter. 
  • A made 3-point shot from Mcgloon started the scoring in the second quarter to put the Mules up 18-2. First year Elyza Mitchell (Spofford, N.H.) got her first points of the game after making a jumper shot assisted by senior Lia Raynowska (Brentwood, N.H.). The Mules added another 6 points to make it 26-4. Sophomore Gabby Lucertini (Branford, Conn.) dished the ball to Mitchell who was able to make a layup. Shortly after, Raynowska drained a 3-pointer off the assist from Holt, but the Mules would head into halftime with a 31-9 advantage. 
  • Colby-Sawyer opened the third quarter with a made 3-point shot from senior Emily Parent (Oakland, Maine), her first points of the game. A jumper shot from Chelsea Ibenegbu put the Mules up 33-12. After a few scoreless minutes, Lucertini drove into the paint to make a layup, but Ibenegbu would respond with a layup of her own. Colby would end the third quarter 42-16 heading into the final quarter of the game. 
  • The Mules came out strong in the fourth quarter going on a 15-0 run started by a layup from Ibenegbu and ended with a 3-point shot from Lili Nagy to extend their lead to 59-16. Molettieri was the only Charger in the final quarter to get points after making a 3-pointer off the assist from Raynowska. Colby-Sawyer would fall to the Mules with a 61-19 final.  
Notes & Notables:
  • Micthell led the team in scoring with 6 points (3-8 FG), while also recording two rebounds and one block. Raynowska ended the day with three points (1-5 FG, 1-2 3-PT) to go along with five rebounds and two assists. Moletierri and Parent both finished the game with three points apiece for the Chargers.  
  • Mcgloon led the Mules in scoring with 14 points along with 4 rebounds and two assists while Smith ended the day with 11 points, 6 rebounds, four assists, and one steal.
  • The Chargers shot 33.3% (3-9) from deep and finished the game shooting 20.5% (8-39) from the field, 8 points in the paint and 9 bench points.

The Chargers will be on the road again facing Castleton University on Wednesday, November 30th with a 7:00 PM start time.
