Parent's Big Day Propels Chargers Over Thomas College 50-46

WATERVILLE, Maine – The Colby-Sawyer women's basketball got back in the win column on Saturday, defeating Thomas College by a 50-46 final. Senior Emily Parent (Oakland, Maine) poured in 20 points including nine points in the fourth quarter to defeat the Terriers.

Rapid Recap:
  • The Chargers took the lead at 5-3 after sophomore Gabby Lucertini (Branford, Conn.) finished home a layup. After a Terrier layup, Parent kick started a 7-0 Charger run hitting her first three of the day, followed quickly by a fancy finish by sophomore Courtney Brewster (Castleton, Vt.). Thomas College scored at the end of the first quarter to stop the run, but Colby-Sawyer led 12-7 heading into the second quarter.
  • The Terriers went on the attack in the second quarter cutting the Charger lead to 13-12, but Parent hit back-to-back triples to extend the lead further to 19-12. Thomas College got another late-second layup to end the first half scoring with Colby-Sawyer leading 19-14.
  • Lucertini knocked down a three to start the Charger scoring in the second half, but the Terriers battled back cutting the deficit to 24-23 with five minutes to go in the third quarter. Thomas College finally tied the game at 30-30 late in the third and would trade free throws to keep the game knotted heading into the final quarter.
  • Parent broke the tie with another three-ball assisted by Lucertini to put Colby-Sawyer up 36-33. Sophomore Megan Molettieri (Pelham, N.H.) added to the lead by hitting a pair of shots from the charity stripe. Another bucket by sophomore Natalie Panagrosso (Wallingford, Conn.) kept the lead at 40-35 with 6:10 to go. Thomas answered with a layup before a big 5-0 run by the Chargers extended the lead to eight points. The Terriers did not retreat getting five-straight points, but a Parent layup followed by clutch free throws helped the Chargers hold on.
