Chargers Drop Home Opener to Suffolk University

NEW LONDON, N.H. – The Colby-Sawyer Chargers men's basketball team returned home on Wednesday night falling to Suffolk University by a 88-63 final. 

Rapid Recap: 
  • The Rams jumped ahead scoring the first 13 points of the ball game before junior Kadir Arca (Istanbul, Turkey) knocked home a 20-foot jumper to stop the run. The lead grew to 20 points at the 12:46 mark after the Rams continued to stay hot from the floor. Senior Terrence Harvey Jr. (Atlanta, Ga.) and senior Conor Kelly (Charlestown, Mass.) had back-to-back buckets to cut the lead to 31-16, but Suffolk responded with nine-straight points to pick up a 24-point advantage. The Chargers countered with an 11-2 run led by a pair of threes by sophomore Kevin Cummings (Portsmouth, N.H.) to trim the deficit to 42-27 with 1:08 in the first half. Senior Omar Boone (Colorado City, Texas) threw down a massive put back slam with 32 seconds to go in the half, but also was called for a technical to keep the lead at 46-29 headed into the break. 
  • Cummings netted a three-pointer to trim the lead to 16 out of the break, but the Rams continued its success extending the lead back to 24 points. The lead ballooned to 28 points with 10:57 left to play, but the Chargers continued to battle with a 9-0 run ended with an and-one basket by Harvey Jr. to put the deficit at 72-53. Suffolk University held on over the last seven minutes to win by a 88-63 margin.
Stats & Figures:
  • Harvey Jr. led the offense with 11 points (5-11 FG, 0-2 3-FG, 1-1 FT) and three steals. Senior Scott Lampron (Concord, N.H.) was the only other Charger in double figures with 10 points (4-8 FG, 2-4 3-FG) to go with three rebounds. Kelly added nine points (4-7 FG, 1-2 FT), five rebounds and two assists. 
  • Aidan Sullivan paced the Rams with 25 points (6-12 FG, 4-7 3-FG, 9-10 FT), eight assists and three rebounds.  
  • Suffolk University shot 52.6% (30-57) from the field and 44% (11-25) from behind the arc, while Colby-Sawyer shot 37.7% (26-69) from the floor and 34.8% (3-11) from three. 
  • The Rams controlled the glass out rebounding the Chargers by a 44-31 margin.
