NEW LONDON, N.H.
– For the second-consecutive year the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) women's tennis playoffs will come through New London, as the Chargers women's tennis team secured the number one seed on Saturday defeating Simmons University by a 8-1 final.

- The Chargers picked up a 2-1 advantage in doubles as senior Emily Hill (Wilmington, Mass.) and Alyssa Owens (Grain Valley, MO.) dominated in their match ending in an 8-3 final in first doubles. Sophomore Elise Hogan (Duxbury, Mass.) and sophomore Amelia Campanella (Chepachet, R.I.) also cruised to a 8-3 win in number three doubles.
- The singles round was highlighted Owens who picked up a 6-0, 6-0 win in number one singles for the Chargers. Sophomore Isabella Gutierrez Avendaño (Tegucigalpa, Honduras) also impressed in number three singles defeating Libby Weed by a 6-1, 6-0 final. Hogan picked up a big win in number four singles winning also by a 6-0, 6-1 final.
Player Spotlight:
"I thought today was one of our best matches", said sophomore
Elise Hogan (Duxbury, Mass.). "We had a slow start in doubles, but we proved our toughness in singles and everyone got it done fast. I'm really proud of how well the team is doing and I'm super excited for the GNAC playoffs to begin."
Up Next:
The Chargers close out the regular season on Tuesday against Springfield College on the road. The GNAC Semi-Final round will take place on October 15th at the Kelsey Tennis Courts with the opponent to be determined.
