NEW LONDON, N.H. – The Chargers field hockey team dropped a contest to Saint Joseph's College of Maine Monks by a 4-3 final in overtime on Wednesday.
Rapid Recap: 
	- The Monks took an early advantage as Maya Waryas capitalized on a penalty corner to give the visitors a 1-0 lead a minute and a half into the contest. The Chargers responded as senior Aoife Daly (Harwich, Mass.) picked up her ninth goal of the year on an assist by first year Taylor Gaudette (North Conway, N.H.). Colby-Sawyer picked up the lead in the 9th minute as first year Cecilia Ponzini (Windham, N.H.) tapped home a centering pass from junior Aleah Murph (Portland, Maine) to put the Chargers on top heading into the second quarter. 
- In the second quarter a penalty stroke was awarded to the Chargers after keeper Kassidy Collins pushed down Gaudette in the crease. Sophomore Courtney Larson (Auburn, Maine) stepped up to the dot and finished the stroke past Collins to extend the lead to 3-1 in the 21st minute. Colby-Sawyer held the momentum into the break not allowing a single shot in the second quarter.
- The turning point of the match came in the 39th minute as sophomore Alyssa Slocum (Windsor, Vt.) collided with a Monk and was assessed a controversial yellow card. In the five minute penalty the Monks would capitalize and score again with Waryas scoring her second of the day to put the score at 3-2 heading into the fourth quarter. The the fourth quarter Saint Joseph's College of Maine dominated possession connecting on their third goal of the day as Abbie Jacques found Waryas in the center of the crease for a goal and an equalizer. The Chargers were held at bay in the fourth and did not record a single shot.
- In the overtime period the Monks used the momentum gained in the second half to earn an early corner opportunity. Sophomore Sabrina Lippold (Windham, N.H.) jumped in and made the defensive stop poking the ball free. The Monks would eventually net the game-winner in the 61st minute as Jacques fired home a rebound off senior Lauren Wilkinson (Lynn, Mass.) to beat the Chargers.
Stats & Figures:
	- Ponzini registered collegiate goal number one, while Larson added her first goal of the season following 13 in 2021. Daly added goal number nine on the year and continues to lead the Chargers in points at 28.
- Wilkinson stopped four shots in net for the Chargers as her record slides to 9-4 on the season.
- The Monks out shot the Chargers by a 14-7 margin and a 8-5 on target differential.
