BOSTON, Mass. – The Colby-Sawyer men's volleyball team competed in a nail biter against the Saints of Emmanuel College on Tuesday night. Despite the overall loss, the men collected their first two set victories of the 2022 season.
Rapid Recap:
- With a total of 10 kills in the first set, the Chargers went head-to-head with the Saints, responding quickly to every opposing kill. Tied at four, Emmanuel took the three-point advantage with back-to-back kills. The Saints managed to keep the Chargers in their rear-view mirror as they took set one 25-20.
- Coming off a five-point deficit, first-year Isaac Davies (Hinesburg, VT.) provided a powerful attack with help from first-year Lucas Lizotte (Hampstead, N.H.) to score the first point of set two. As the match went on, the cat chase mouse theme continued, this time with the Chargers in the lead. The men were able to withhold their advantage until an Emmanuel kill knotted the score at 24. Needing to win by two, an attacking error from their opponent and a set ending kill from first year Andreas Bump (St. Thomas, Virgin Islands), the Chargers took set two 26-24 with a season high of 12 kills.
- Attacking errors along with Emmanuel's eight kills got the best of the Chargers as they dropped the third set 25-13. The Saints had a quick jump as they took a four-point advantage stemming from a successful attack and followed by a serving ace. Seniors Orlando Plagata (Los Angeles, Calif.), and Eric Miller (La Grange, ILL.) joined first years Davies and Christopher Huynh (Methuen, Mass.) taking turns recording a kill each.
- The Chargers quickly grabbed onto the lead in the fourth set and never let go to tie the match up 2-2 with a 25-20 set victory over the Saints. Each team had a common total of nine kills in the set with the difference coming from the nine Emmanuel errors to give the Chargers the gain.
- The Colby-Sawyer men showed promise as they swiftly took the 4-1 lead to start the fifth and final set of the night. The Saints, eager as ever, responded to tie the set up at four. A serving error gave the Chargers the upper hand in which they held until the Saints knotted the score up again at 12. Needing to reach 15 as well as win by two, attacking errors seemed to be the Chargers fate for the night as they dropped their most battled set 16-14, losing the overall match 3-2.

- Lizotte collected a total of 31 assists in five sets for a new season high, defeating his previous set record of 14 in three sets.
