Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Humphrey Nets Overtime Winner Against Rivier, 1-0

NASHUA, N.H. – The Colby-Sawyer College women's soccer team earned its second Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) win of the season on Saturday afternoon, needing extra time to secure the 1-0 victory against in-state foe Rivier University. Junior captain Brenna Humphrey (Cornish, Maine) tallied the game-winner, her first goal of the season.

The Basics:

Score: Colby-Sawyer 1, Rivier University 0
Records: Colby Sawyer (2-4, 2-2 GNAC) | Rivier (2-6-1, 0-4-1 GNAC)
Location: Nashua, N.H. | Raiders Field

The Summary:

  • Junior goalkeeper Alexis LeBreton (Bangor, ME) saw a flurry of action in the first half, recording four total saves to leave the Raiders scoreless.
  • The first Chargers shot of the game came off the boot of sophomore Sam Bishop (Windham, N.H.) 30 minutes into the first half. That was quickly followed by another shot from Bishop less than a minute later, but Colby-Sawyer would come up empty. Both teams headed into halftime scoreless.
  • Freshman Bridget O'Connell, (Peabody, Mass.) who is responsible for three of the four Colby-Sawyer goals on the season, started the second half with a shot just over the crossbar. O'Connell fired another shot 10 minutes later, this time on target, but was retrieved by the Raider's goalkeeper in a diving attempt. Back-and-forth action the remainder of the half kept both teams scoreless, forcing extra time.
  • Less than a minute into overtime, Bishop provided Humphrey with a quick through-ball to set-up the junior captain for the game-winner, which she sent home for the victory.

Coaches Corner:

"That win was well-earned and well-deserved. We're beginning to understand how to keep possession of the ball and move it through gaps to create high percentage opportunities" said Head Coach Grace Sokolow. "More than anything, we're just grateful for the opportunity to be back on the field."

Stats & Figures:
  • The Chargers had 12 total shots, three on goal.
  • LeBreton finished the day with seven total saves and earned her third shutout of her career.
