NORTHFIELD, VT. – The Colby-Sawyer baseball team lost both games of today's doubleheader against Norwich University. In the first game, the Chargers had it tied until bottom of the sixth inning, which is where the Cadets pulled away. Game two was a nail bitter, from start to finish. The Chargers had runners in scoring position in the top of the seventh, but could not get them across home plate to tie, or possibly take the lead.

How It Happened (Game One)
- Sophomore Ian Turpel (Cohasset, Mass.) got the Chargers season started on the offensive side of the ball by hitting a single up the middle with one out in the first. Later in the inning Turpel got thrown out trying to steal second. Junior Kaelen Close (Greenfield, Mass.) started on the hill for Colby-Sawyer. Close struck out one in the first to put the Cadets down in order. In the second, the Chargers loaded the bases after two walks and a batter who was hit by a pitch. Sophomore Michael Roy (Fairfax, Vt.) grounded into a double play ball that ended the threat for Colby-Sawyer in the inning. Close let up a double to right and then walked a batter with two outs in the second. After stepping off the mound to gather himself he struck out the final batter and ended the inning.
- Senior Nate Gehringer poked an infielder single that scored the first run of the game for the Cadets. In the bottom of the fourth freshman Owen Silk ripped an RBI double to right that added one to the Cadet lead. In the next half inning the Chargers responded by getting a scrappy run after Roy reached on a scoring error, was bunted over to third and then knocked in on a fielder's choice off the bat of freshman Mike Allard (Sanbornton, N.H.).
- Sophomore Tommy Sasso (Grafton, Mass.) singled to start off the inning. Junior Jake Choiniere (St. Johnsbury, Vt.) grounded out into a fielder's choice to advance Sasso to second. Sasso then stole third. Sophomore Cooper O'Brien (Vergennes, Vt.) came up and tied the game after grounding out into another fielder's choice. The Cadet's scored four runs in the bottom of the sixth to put the game out of reach for the Chargers.
How It Happened (Game Two)
- Sasso opened game two of the doubleheader by ripping a single up the middle, but got left on first as the Chargers failed to move him to any additional bases. Senior Noah Yeingst (Middleboro, Mass.) started on the hill for Colby-Sawyer and rolled through the first three innings, allowing just one hit. In the top of the third junior Jackson Parmentier (Higganum, Conn.) scorched a double to deep right field, but ended up getting stuck at second at the end of the inning.
- Like in game one, the Cadets scored first, this time it was on an infield single. In the fifth Yeingst got Norwich to go down in order and gave Colby-Sawyer a chance to get in the game, only needing one run. Turpel and Sasso had back-to-back singles with two outs in the sixth, but nobody could get one of them across home plate. Senior's Max Wingard (Truckee, Calif.) and Owen Cottle (Harwich, Mass.) combined to pitch a scoreless bottom of the sixth. O'Brien opened the seventh with a double down the right field line. A fielder's choice got him to third, but ultimately did not come in to score.
