Women's Lacrosse Bested by New England College

HENNIKER, N.H. – The Colby-Sawyer women's lacrosse team suffered its second loss of the season Wednesday against New England College.  The Chargers cut the Pilgrim lead to three twice, but could not break through for the win.
 
Senior Briana Couture (South Hadley, Mass.) and sophomore Sydney Stevens (Laconia, N.H.) both scored three goals in the Charger defeat.  Junior Caroline Tompkins (Marblehead, Mass.) and senior Allison Piracini (Tewksbury, Mass.) added a goal each as well.

How It Happened
  • The first half was primary dominated by New England College.  Couture scored the only goal of the half for the Chargers six minutes into the first stanza.  Despite only scoring the one goal the Chargers defense kept them in the game.  Freshman Simone Long (Wales, Maine) had four saves that kept Colby-Sawyer alive in the first half.  The Charger defense also caused 13 turnovers during the first 30 minutes of play.
  • Tompkins and Stevens opened up the second half scoring goals on back-to-back offensive possessions cutting the Pilgrim lead to just three goals.  New England College answered with a goal of their own to bring the lead back up to four.  The Chargers stormed back behind goals from Stevens and Piracini that made the lead two.  The Pilgrims came back with two goals of their own to push the lead back up to four.  Couture and Tompkins connected for her second goal of the game that made the advantage three once again.  New England College added two more goals to swell the lead up to five.  Sophomore Hannah Marquis (Weare, N.H.) found Couture for her third goal of the game with just over seven minutes left in the game.  The Pilgrims scored three goals in the final six minutes to put the game out of reach for the Chargers.
