Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Chargers Bounce Blazers 71-59

NEW LONDON, N.H. –  The Colby-Sawyer men's basketball team was victorious in their first Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) game this season with a 71-59 victory over Elms College.

Rapid Recap:
  • The offense ran through first year Kevin Cummings (Portsmouth, N.H.) early as he scored eight of the first 11 points for the Chargers to give the home team the 11-8 advantage early in the first half. Cummings later poured in two more triples to jump the lead to 22-14 midway through the first.
  • A late first half run by the Blazers got the game to a 29-28 score, but a junior Conor Kelly (Charlestown, Mass.) block led to a fast break bucket by first year Chase Berg (Fitzwilliam, N.H.) and carried the Chargers to a 33-30 first half lead.
  • In the second half Elms College jumped back in front leading 34-33, before a 7-0 counter run put the Chargers in front for good. The Blazers had the game to within two with three minutes remaining, but a clutch three from Cummings, followed by a junior Zack Caraballo (Salem, N.H.) triple pushed the game out of reach.
Coaches Corner:

"We needed that win", said head coach Dan Kaigler. "It wasn't pretty but we fought hard the whole game. Our defense was able to keep us in it even through some of our scoring droughts and that's what our team is about, getting stops on the defensive end and I feel we did that tonight and that's why we were able to come away with the win."

Notes & Notables:
  • Cummings notched a career-high 23 points (8-14 FG, 5-11 3-PT, 2-2 FT) to go along with eight rebounds and two assists.
  • Junior Omar Boone (Colorado City, Texas) brought the energy with 12 points (4-12 FG, 2-3 3-PT, 2-2 FT) seven rebounds and a pair of blocks, while junior Scott Lampron added nine points (2-15 FG, 0-5 3-PT, 5-5 FT), six assists and six boards in an all around effort.
  • D.J. Edelen led the Blazers with 21 points and nine rebounds.

Up next:
The men's basketball team is back in action on December 4th, heading to Norwich University for the Ed Hockenbury Classic.
