Chargers' Rally Comes Up Short Against Wellesley 55-48

WATERVILLE, Maine - The Colby Sawyer women's basketball team were taken down by Wellesley College at the Margaret M.Crook arena on Sunday afternoon in the consolation round of the Colby Tip-Off Classic.

RECAP:

Wellesley jumped out to an early 6-0 lead in the first quarter until first year Gabby Lucertini (Branford, Conn.) connected on a three-pointer to cut the lead in half, 6-3.
From there, it was all Blue as a pair of triples extended the Wellesley lead to 12-3. The Chargers attempted to cut the lead with two shots from behind the arc from junior Emily Parent (Oakland, Maine) to make it a 12 point deficit for the Chargers heading into the break.

Coming into the second half, Junior Ameesah Cotton (Newburgh, NY) finished two tough layups in the paint followed by a jump shot from first year Marrisa Holt (Alfred, Maine) to keep the lead in striking distance. After a steal by Cotton, Holt took advantage netting another jumper to cut the lead back to 12 points.

The Chargers and Blue had both scored 13 points in the 3rd quarter. Heading into the 4th, The Chargers cut the lead down to 7 following a pair of free throws by Holt. Clutch free throws from Wellesley cut the comeback short and gave the Blue a 55-48 win.
