Chargers Tripped Up by Falcons 2-0

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – A pair of second half goals by Albertus Magnus was too much to overcome for the Colby-Sawyer women's soccer team on Saturday, as the Chargers fell to the Falcons by a 2-0 final. The loss drops Colby-Sawyer to 3-6-0 overall, 3-4-0 in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) while Albertus improves to 7-4-0, 5-3-0 in the GNAC.

Junior Alexis Lebreton (Bangor, ME) turned away all five Falcon shots on target in the game's opening half to keep the game knotted at 0-0. The Chargers recorded three shots in the first half, two on net, but Albertus keeper Katherine Raposo turned both on-target shots away.

Albertus got on the board four minutes into the game's second stanza when Emmalee Ianniello booted in her fourth goal of the season, giving the Falcons a 1-0 advantage.

The score would stay a one-goal advantage until the game's 87th minute, when the Falcons' Haley Andrews poked in her team-leading sixth goal of the year, sealing the victory.

First year Bridget O'Connell (Peabody, Mass.) had a team-best three shots (two on net) on the afternoon while sophomore Sam Bishop (Windham, N.H.) and junior Hanna Marquis (Weare, N.H.) each registered two.

Lebreton finished with nine saves, suffering the loss.

The Chargers return to the pitch on Wednesday, Oct. 13 when they travel to Newton, Mass. and Lasell University for a 3 p.m. GNAC matchup with the Pride.
