Chargers Can't Upset Monks in GNAC Quarterfinals

STANDISH, MAINE – The Chargers fell in the quarterfinals of the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) tournament to the unbeaten in conference play Saint Joseph's College of Maine.

The Basics:

Score: Colby-Sawyer 0, Saint Joseph's College of Maine 3
Records: Colby Sawyer (5-10-0, 5-8-0 GNAC) | Saint Joseph's College of Maine (13-1-2, 11-0 GNAC)
Location: SJC Athletic Complex

The Summary:
  • The Monks jumped ahead early with a pair of goals in the opening 10 minutes to take control of the game.
  • Senior Tim Driscoll (Framingham, Mass.) took a pair of shots towards the tail end of the first half, but the shots were to no avail and it would be a 2-0 advantage for Saint Joseph's College of Maine heading into the second half.
  • In the 82nd minute the Monks would add the final insurance goal taking a 3-0 game and putting the game away.

Coaches Corner
"We gave up two goals in the first 10 minutes from poor defending and you can't do that against a really good team like St. Joe's," said Head Coach Bob Reasso. "Lucas had an exceptional game in goal or the score would have been worse."

Stats & Figures:
  • Senior Lucas Boetsch (Rockport, Maine) had a season-high with 14 saves in the loss.
  • Driscoll took all three shots for the Chargers, while the Monks had 36 shots over the 90 minutes.
  • This concludes the season for Colby-Sawyer ending the 2021-22 campaign with a 5-10 overall record.
