Chargers Draw on Senior Day

NEW LONDON, N.H. – A well-fought battle by the Colby-Sawyer women's soccer team and the Blazers of Elms College ended in a 0-0 tie. Junior goalkeeper, Alexis Lebreton (Bangor, ME) successfully kept the Blazers off the board with six total saves. 

Rapid Recap: 
  • The Blazers offense dominated the first half, putting up five total shots to the Chargers two. Senior captain Thea Alberti (Wilmington, Mass.) recorded the first shot of the match in the seventh minute of the first quarter. In the 31st minute, freshman Bridget O'Connell had the second scoring opportunity for the Chargers as she laced one towards the bottom left corner of the goal but was stopped by the Elms keeper. 
  • Eight minutes into the second quarter, Lebreton saved a shot in the bottom center of the frame to keep the Blazers from scoring. Late in regulation both O'Connell and Alberti recorded another shot each with Alberti's being on goal. 
  • The contest headed into overtime play with the score set at 0-0. The remainder of the match was quiet as neither team found the back of the net and ultimately settled for a tie in the books. 
Notes & Notables: 
  • Three special seniors were honored in today's match including #2 Sophia DeMarco, #7 Lydia Nattress, and #17 Rachel Ferrier
  • Alberti finished the day with three total shots and two on goal. 
  • 31 fouls were called between both teams.

Women's soccer will close out their regular season by traveling to Standish, Maine to compete in another Great Northeast Athletic Conference matchup against the Monks of Saint Joseph's College of Maine on Wednesday, October 27th at 7:30 pm.
