Chargers suffer setback against Saint Joseph

NEW LONDON, N.H. – A pair of goals in both the first and second half helped propel the visiting Blue Jays of Saint Joseph's to a 4-0 victory over Colby-Sawyer on Saturday afternoon.

The loss drops Colby-Sawyer to 1-7-1 overall, 1-5-1 in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) play while the Blue Jays improve to 6-1-1, 4-1-0 in GNAC play.

The Chargers had an early opportunity in the game's 17th minute but could not find the goal. A flurry of shots followed in the 20th minute by the Chargers, but CSC would come up empty.

In the 23rd minute Saint Joseph responded with a goal by Deante Anderson, giving the visitors the 1-0 edge. Just before the half, the Blue Jays added another goal, this time by Charles Mputu to take a 2-0 advantage into halftime.

In the second half, the Blue Jays came out firing, tacking on goals in the 56th and 72nd minutes to double their advantage over the Chargers and cruising to the shutout victory.

"We played well in the first half and could have been ahead," said head coach Bob Reasso. "They got behind us too many times today and to their credit, they finished well. The goal we gave up right before the half killed us. They deserved the win. They are a talented, well-coached team."

The Chargers held the advantage in total shots on the afternoon, 14-12, and produced seven corner kicks to just one from USJ.

First year Jadon Baros recorded four shots on the day, one on net while seniors Alex Carp and Mason Galbato each registered three shots, one each on net. Senior Lucas Boetsch tallied five saves on the afternoon in net.

Colby-Sawyer returns to action on Tuesday, Oct. 5 playing host to Norwich University in another GNAC tilt. Game time is set for 3:30 p.m. at Kelsey Field.
