NEW LONDON, N.H. – September 10, 2020 – Program alumna and the all-time winningest coach in Colby-Sawyer College women's soccer history,
Meghan Medbery '04, will return to serve as Interim Head Coach, Director of Athletics
Mitch Capelle announced Thursday.
She takes over for Gene Smith, who departs the College to become the head coach of Peachtree City MOBA that competes in the Southeast Conference of the Women's Premier Soccer League (WPSL). He will also be the Girls Director at the MOBA Soccer Academy.
"We wish Gene well on his future endeavors," said Capelle. "It is great to welcome Meghan back in an interim role this fall. Her familiarity with Colby-Sawyer and our women's soccer program will be a tremendous asset to our student-athletes and the department. Meghan's ability to build team culture will have a positive impact on the program, particularly in this unique season."
Medbery makes her return to Colby-Sawyer after spending six years as the head coach from 2012-2017. In that span, Medbery guided the Chargers to an 82-30-9 overall record and a 49-3-2 mark in the North Atlantic Conference (NAC). She led the team to the program's first conference title in 2013 and followed with championships in the next three seasons for a total of four in six years. The Chargers went 9-0 in the NAC regular season three times and had eight wins in two other seasons. Medbery, a four-time NAC Coach of the Year, is the program's all-time leader in wins, winning percentage, and guided the team to the top-4 win totals in program history.
Medbery has been connected with Colby-Sawyer for 17 years, four as a student-athlete, seven as an assistant coach, and six as the head coach.
