NEWTON, Mass. - March 7, 2020 - The Colby-Sawyer women's lacrosse team fell to Lasell, 16-10, in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) opener for both teams.
Lasell improves to 2-0 overall and 1-0 in the conference. The Lasers were picked third in the GNAC preseason poll. Colby-Sawyer drops to 2-1 overall and 0-1 in the GNAC. The Chargers will conclude a four-game road trip at Keene State on Tuesday at 4 p.m.
Jordan McComb tallied eight goals and eight draw controls to lead Lasell. Erin Kriger posted a pair of goals and seven draw controls. Chloe Shugrue contributed a goal and five assists.
Colby-Sawyer was led by a four-goal performance from
Sarah Morin.
Jess Tattersall added a pair of goals, while
Allison Piracini contributed a goal and two assists.
Briana Couture,
Caroline Tompkins and
Hannah Marquis rounded out the scoring with a goal apiece. Couture added five ground balls.
It was a 2-2 score midway through the first half before the home team scored seven of the next eight goals to take a commanding 9-3 lead after 30 minutes.
The Lasers outscored the Chargers 6-3 over the first 20 minutes of the second half to pull away to a 15-6 advantage. Colby-Sawyer made a comeback in the final 10 minutes but could not overcome the deficit.
Morgan Choquet earned the win and finished with 11 stops for Lasell.
Kailyn Lapham made 10 saves for the Chargers.
