CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - March 4, 2020 - The Colby-Sawyer men's tennis team was blanked by 26th ranked MIT, 9-0, on Wednesday afternoon.
MIT improves to 2-1, while the Chargers fall to 2-3. Colby-Sawyer heads to Florida to play five matches in four days.
The Engineers swept doubles action to take a 3-0 lead. At No. 1, Albert Go (Merritt Island, Fla.) and Derek Shen (Chestnut Hill, Mass.) defeated
Mike White and
Khameron Savatdy, 8-1. MIT then won the No. 2 and No. 3 matches by an 8-2 score.
MIT's No. 2 pairing of (Carmel, Calif.) and Richter Jordaan (Denver, Colo.) and the No. 3 pairing of Michael Zhao (Princeton Junction, N.J.) and Victor Cheng (Santa Monica, Calif.) both picked up 8-2 wins prior to singles.
Colby-Sawyer's
Cam Lynch took the first set off of Daniel Papacica at the third flight 6-3, but Papacica battled back to win the match with second and third set victories by scores of 6-4 and 6-3.
At the fourth flight, Colby-Sawyer's
Griffin Forberg also won the first set 6-3, but Pablo Ampudia rebounded for MIT to take the next two sets 6-1 and 6-1.
MIT won the other four singles matches in straight sets to win the match 9-0.
