ORLANDO, Fla. - The Colby-Sawyer men's tennis team went 3-2 in five matches in central Florida this week.
The Chargers finish the spring at 5-5.
Colby-Sawyer earned 5-4 wins over Monmouth College, DeSales, and Illinois Wesleyan. The Chargers dropped a 5-4 decision to Roger Williams and fell 8-1 to Rhodes.
COLBY-SAWYER 5, MONMOUTH 4
Colby-Sawyer took an important 2-1 lead after doubles action. The Chargers cruised to victories at the No.1 and No. 2 slots.
Julius Lowman and
Cam Lynch combined for an 8-1 win at No. 2, while
Erik Antonacci and
Griffin Forberg picked up an 8-2 win at the third spot.
Mike White and
Khameron Savatdy battled at the top flight but were edged 8-6.
The Chargers then got the three points they need with wins at No. 4, No. 5 and No. 6.
Griffin Forberg earned a straight-sets victory at the fourth flight by a 6-2, 6-0 score, while
Khameron Savatdy also won his match at No. 5 by an identical score.
Erik Antonacci breezed to a 6-1, 6-1 win in his No. 6 match to make the score 5-4.
COLBY-SAWYER 5, DeSALES 4
The Chargers took a 2-1 with a pair of doubles wins.
Mike White and
Khameron Savatdy earned an 8-5 victory at the top doubles flight, while
Julius Lowman and
Cam Lynch picked up an 8-6 victory at No. 2.
Colby-Sawyer then got the three singles points needed to clinch the match.
Julius Lowman cruised to a 6-2, 6-3 win at the second flght, while
Cam Lynch also breezed to a 6-1, 6-2 win at the third spot. Griffin Forbert dopped just one game en route to his 6-1, 6-0 victory at No. 4.
ROGER WILLIAMS 5, COLBY-SAWYER 4
Erik Antonacci and
Griffin Forberg recorded the team's lone doubles point with an 8-5 triumph at the third spot, but the team trailed 2-1 heading into singles.
Colby-Sawyer and the Hawks then split the singles matches to account for the 5-4 score.
Cam Lynch posted a 7-5, 6-3 victory at the third flight.
Griffin Forberg and
Erik Antonacci then picked up three-set victories. Forberg edged his opponent at the fourth flight 6-1, 5-7 and 10-3. Antonacci also won by almost the same scores as he posted a 6-2, 5-7 and 10-3 win at the No. 6 spot.
COLBY-SAWYER 5, ILLINOIS WESLEYAN 4
Erik Antonacci and
Griffin Forberg continued a great week at the No. 3 doubles spot as the duo won their match 8-3.
Despite trailing 2-1 after doubles, Colby-Sawyer rebounded by winning four of the six singles matches to earned the victory.
Julius Lowman won his No. 2 match (7-6, 6-0),
Cam Lynch earned a 7-5, 6-2 win at No. 3,
Griffin Forberg took his No. 4 match by a 6-2, 6-2 score and
Erik Antonacci cruised to the 6-1, 6-0 victory at the sixth flight.
RHODES 8, COLBY-SAWYER 1
In the team's final match against a tough Rhodes team,
Griffin Forberg and
Erik Antonacci posted the lone point for the Chargers with an 8-7 (7-0) doubles win at the No. 3 spot. Antonacci also put up a great fight in his No. 5 singles match. He won the first set 6-3, but then fell 6-2 and 10-5.
