ORLANDO, Fla. - The Colby-Sawyer women's tennis team spent spring break in sunny Orlando, Fla. to play four matches against competition from around the country.
The Chargers began the week with a tough 7-2 loss to DeSales.
Yashu Yang and
Amira Eid combined to edge the top duo of DeSales by an 8-6 score, but the Bulldogs won the other two doubles matches to take a 2-1 lead. The Chargers' lone singles point came from Yang at the top flight. She cruised to a 6-1, 6-1 victory.
Colby-Sawyer then fell to Marywood by a 6-3 margin. Yang and Eid continued their great doubles play to earn an 8-2 victory at the top spot. Yang and Eid also won at the top two singles flights in straight sets. Yang won her match 6-0 and 6-0 while Eid won 6-3 and 6-3.
After playing Marywood in the morning on Wednesday, the Chargers played a very tough Roger Williams squad in the evening. The Hawks (15-2) earned an 8-1 victory.
Yashu Yang impressed with a a 6-1, 6-1 triumph at the No. 1 singles slot to account for Colby-Sawyer's point.
The team rounded out the week with a 7-2 loss to Illinois Wesleyan. At the No. 1 doubles spot, Yang and Eid cruised to another convincing victory with an 8-2 score. Yang wrapped up a perfect singles week with a 6-1, 6-0 victory at the top flight.
Yang finished the week with a 4-0 singles record and a 3-1 mark at No. 1 doubles with Eid. Yang is now 16-1 on the season in singles and 16-2 in doubles. She moved into a tie for seventh in singles wins with 49 and into the ninth spot in career doubles with 53. She is tied for eighth in total wins with 102.
