NEW LONDON, N.H. – September 7, 2019 – The Colby-Sawyer field hockey team was edged by Plymouth State, 2-1, in non-conference action Saturday afternoon.
Plymouth State improves to 2-1 and will play at Western Connecticut next Saturday. The Chargers drop to 1-2 and will host Gordon on Wednesday at 3 p.m.

Alie Jones (Cape Neddick, Maine) put the home team in front 1-0 with less than three minutes to play in the first quarter. The goal, which was assisted by sophomore
Chrissy Coffield (North Conway, N.H.), was Jones' second of the season.
The second quarter did not yield any score change as Colby-Sawyer took a 1-0 lead into halftime.
The third quarter belonged to Plymouth State junior Haley Wakefield (Norway, Maine). She scored the game-tying goal two minutes into the frame. She then turned a feed from Kaitlyne Silva (East Providence, R.I.) into the eventual game-winning goal with 1:08 left in the quarter.
Neither team got on the board in the fourth quarter as Plymouth State held on for the 2-1 comeback victory.
Panthers goalie Jess Distler (Brookfield, N.H.) made two saves to earn the win, while
Abby Ladd (Colchester, Vt.) had six saves for the Chargers.
Plymouth State had a 10-7 edge in shots, while Colby-Sawyer had a 9-2 advantage in penalty corners.
