Women's Tennis Falls to Eastern Nazarene, 5-4

NEW LONDON, N.H. – September 18, 2019 – The Colby-Sawyer women's tennis team was topped by Eastern Nazarene, 5-4, in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action Wednesday afternoon.  

Eastern Nazarene remains perfect on the season at 4-0 overall and 2-0 in the GNAC. Colby-Sawyer drops to 1-5 overall and 1-2 in conference play. The Chargers travel to the Grass Court Doubles Tournament held at the International Tennis Hall of Fame in Newport, R.I. on Friday.

The Chargers won two of the three doubles matches to take a 2-1 lead. Yashu Yang (Kunming City, China) and Alexa Conlin (Westborough, Mass.) remained unbeaten with an 8-2 victory over Emily Ruttkowski and Magdalena Hubel at the top spot. Margaret Fox (New Orleans, La.) and Hannah Nasser (Middletown, R.I.) defeated Maria Busila and Makayla Grantham at the third spot by an 8-6 score. Eastern Nazarene picked up a point at No. 2 with Sharon Biondi and Veronica Jimenez teaming up for an 8-0 win over Amira Eid (Pelham, N.H.) and Juliet Henderson (Swanzey, N.H.).

Yang cruised to a 6-2, 6-0 victory at the top singles flight over Biondi, while Nasser won her No. 6 match in three sets 4-6, 6-1, 7-5 to account for the two Colby-Sawyer singles points.  

The Lions won flights at 2 thru 5 in straight sets to complete the come from behind 5-4 victory.
