NORTON, Mass. - March 23, 2019 - Playing their first match since hoisting the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) title in the fall, the Colby-Sawyer women's tennis team began a tough stretch of matches this spring in preparation for the NCAA Tournament, which will take place the second week of May. The Chargers fell to Wheaton, 8-1.
Wheaton, which has played six matches this spring, is now 2-5. Colby-Sawyer goes to 10-3 and will host Endicott on April 3.
The Lyons swept doubles action to take a 3-0 lead. The closest match came at the top spot where
Yashu Yang and
Anna Kopituk battled Ines de Bracamonte and Miriam Galindo Cerrado, but fell 8-6.
Senior
Hilary Boucher notched the Chargers' lone point of the day with a comeback win at No. 5 singles. After Allison Burton took a 1-0 lead with a 6-4 first-set win, Boucher battled back to even the match with a 7-6 (7-5) win in the second. Boucher then secured the win with a 10-7 tie break win in the third.
