Men's Basketball Edged by Emmanuel in GNAC Quarterfinals

BOSTON, Mass. – February 19, 2019 – Colby-Sawyer senior Jourdain Bell (Manchester, N.H.) became the program's all-time leader in career steals with 207, but the #5 seed Chargers were edged by the #4 seed Saints of Emmanuel, 90-83, in Tuesday evening's Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Tournament Quarterfinal.

Emmanuel improves to 18-7 and will travel to top seed Albertus Magnus on Thursday for a semifinal matchup. Colby-Sawyer ends its season at 13-13.

Bell picked up a pair of steals in the game to give him 207 and pass 2011 Colby-Sawyer Hall of Fame inductee Andrew St. Clair '05 to become the all-time leader. Bell finished his career with 1476 career points to rank seventh on the all-time list. Junior Patrick Coffey (Westford, Mass.) led all players with 28 points on 10-21 shooting. He moved into 18th place on the all-time scoring list with 1184. Junior Dana Bean (Franklin, N.H.) recorded his 12th double-double of the season with 25 points and 11 rebounds. He sits at 1231 career points. Sophomore KJ Synvrit (Miami, Fla.) added 11 points.

The Saints were led by Emmett Riddick's 26 points. He was 11-of-12 from the free throw line. Emmanuel received double-doubles from Joe Tamburro (21 points, 11 rebounds) and Isaiah Ruffen (13 points, 10 rebounds). Marcus Fox also reached double digits with 12 points to go with eight boards.

Emmanuel shot 46% from the floor with 29 made baskets, while Colby-Sawyer connected on 30 made field goals to shoot 45.5%. The Saints were able to win the game thanks to nine made three-pointers to Colby-Sawyer's four.

The Chargers raced out to a 13-3 lead, behind nine combined points from Coffey and Bean, five minutes into the game.  The Saints responded with a 10-2 run capped by a Jack Moulder (Newtown, Conn.) trey to close the gap to a bucket at 15-13.

The remainder of the first half did not see either team lead by more than four points. The score was tied 40-40 at the break.

Coffey scored the first four points of the half for the Chargers, but Emmanuel came back to score eight in a row to take a 48-44 advantage, three minutes into the frame.

The visitors held a 55-54 lead with 11:41 showing on the clock before a Tamburro gave Emmanuel the lead back. Another Coffey jumper put Colby-Sawyer back on top 57-56, but a Mulder bucket on the ensuing possession put the Saints in front with a lead they would never relinquish in the final 10 minutes of the game.

The lead for the home team ballooned to eight shortly after, but Colby-Sawyer battled back to cut the deficit to one point on multiple occasions. Unfortunately, the Chargers could not get over the hump as the Saints were able to convert a high percentage from the free throw line down the stretch to secure the victory. Emmanuel was 23-of-27 from the line for the game, while Colby-Sawyer was 19-of-22.
