NEW LONDON, N.H. – December 7, 2019 – The Colby-Sawyer College men's basketball team was defeated by Colby, 101-69, in non-conference action Saturday afternoon.
Colby remains undefeated at 9-0. The Mules are back in action on Dec. 31 at Southern Maine. Colby-Sawyer falls to 4-3 and will play at NVU-Lyndon on Tuesday.
The Mules were led by sophomore Noah Tyson's (Rutland, Vt.) 29 points. He was 11-of-17 from the floor and 7-of-12 from beyond the arc. Senior Sam Jefferson (Newton, Mass.) and junior Wallace Tucker (Atlanta, Ga.) each added 21 points. First-year Will King (Glenview, Ill.) contributed 13 assists and eight rebounds. Senior Dean Weiner (Tenafly, N.J.) recorded seven blocks and 12 rebounds.
Colby-Sawyer received 16 points from senior
Dana Bean (Franklin, N.H.). He was 7-of-12 and added nine rebounds. Senior
Patrick Coffey (Westford, Mass.) tallied seven points, five assists and five rebounds. First-year
Jake Lorman (Rutland, Vt.) scored nine points, while first-year
Scott Lampron (Tilton, N.H.) added eight points.
The Mules led 16-8 after five minutes and never looked back. The Colby lead ballooned to 22 after a Jefferson three-pointer with 8:24 showing on the clock. Colby-Sawyer chipped away and pulled within 14 after a Bean layup with 1:25 left, but a Noah Tyson bucket sent Colby to the halftime break with a 50-34 lead.
Colby was able to keep the pressure on throughout the second half and pulled away for the 101-69 victory. The Mules scored 23 of their 40 fast-break points in the second half.
Colby shot 51.3% from the floor and made 14 three-pointers. The Mules finished with 29 assists on 41 buckets.
