Chargers Fall Short at Plymouth State

PLYMOUTH, N.H. - October 23, 2019 - The Colby-Sawyer women's volleyball team dropped a 3-1 non-conference match to intrastate foe Plymouth State on Wednesday evening. The Panthers won by scores of 25-12, 22-25, 25-21, 25-19. 

The Panthers improve to 27-2. Colby-Sawyer dips to 14-15 and will travel to Albertus Magnus on Saturday for an important GNAC tri-match against the Falcons and Anna Maria. 

The home team came out clicking on offense and hit .346 with 13 kills to cruise to the first-set victory. Colby-Sawyer rallied to tie the match with 13 kills of their own in the second set. The Panthers then posted a match best 17 kills on .343 hitting to squeak out the third set, despite the Chargers collecting another 13 kills. Colby-Sawyer took a 6-1 lead early in the fourth set to force a timeout. The Chargers held a 13-7 advantage, but Plymouth State began a 14-1 run to take command of the set. Colby-Sawyer did not give up with the score 21-14 as the Chargers rattled off five of the next six points to make the score 22-19. A couple of kills and a Colby-Sawyer error gave the Panthers the final three points to secure the set and the match. 

Naarah Cox led the Chargers with 13 kills and five blocks. She moved up two spots to fourth all-time in block assists with 191. Sam Mohammed was second on the team with nine kills to go with 10 digs and three aces. Riley Codman hit .385 to finish with five kills and no errors. Anna Allen collected 28 assists, while Morgan Flynn registered a team high 14 digs. Ellie Dupre chipped in 11 digs 

The Panthers received 12 kills apiece from Jaia Woodland and Francie Shaffer. Woodland hit .450 and added six blocks. Alisha Flanagan picked up a match best 20 digs, while Alexa Price tallied 43 assists.
