RUTLAND, Vt. – April 28, 2018 – The top seeded Colby-Sawyer men's tennis team earned a 5-0 victory over second seed Thomas to claim their seventh-straight North Atlantic Conference (NAC) East Division title. The Chargers defeated fourth seed Castleton, 6-0, earlier in the day in the semifinals.
The Chargers (8-10) will now play Penn State Berks (10-6) in the NAC/NEAC Crossover Championship with a trip to the NCAA Tournament on the line. The Nittany Lions won their second-straight NAC West Division title with a 5-1 victory over Penn State Abington on Saturday. The Crossover match will take place on Sunday, May 6 at the Tri-City Tennis Club in Latham, N.Y.

Nick Mathieu (Topsham, Maine) was named Tournament MVP, while sophomore
Cam Lynch (Haverhill, Mass.) and sophomore
Matt Burke (Milford, Conn.) also landed on the All-Tournament Team.

The Chargers swept doubles action, but were tested with three close matches. Senior
Gustav Jigrup (Gothenburg, Vastra Frolunda, Sweden) and
Nick Mathieu combined for an 8-4 victory over Ryan Chasse and Zachary Disch at the top doubles flight. The No. 2 tandem of
Cam Lynch and
Matt Burke and the No. 3 duo of senior
Andrew Peloquin (Greenville, R.I.) and junior
Alex Wright (St. Austell, Cornwall, England) each won their match by an 8-6 score.
Mathieu earned the Chargers' fourth point with a straight-set victory over Ross Munn at No. 2 (6-1, 6-0). Burke clinched the match and the title for Colby-Sawyer with a straight-set victory at No. 4 (6-4, 6-1) over Jared Waterhouse.
Semifinals – Colby-Sawyer 6, Castleton 0
Colby-Sawyer secured a spot in the NAC East Division Championship this afternoon with a 6-0 victory in the semifinal round over the fourth-seeded Castleton Spartans. The Chargers improved to 7-10, while Castleton dropped to 7-6.
The Chargers took a 3-0 lead after sweeping doubles action and won three singles matches in straight-sets to earn a spot in the final for the seventh-straight season.
Colby-Sawyer picked up its first point at No. 2 doubles when
Alex Wright and
Andrew Peloquin defeated Trevor Hanna and Brody Wagner, 8-1. Senior
Ross Kenney (Hampton Falls, N.H.) and sophomore
Mike White (Woburn, Mass.) defeated Jared Wheeler and Oskar Eriksson, 8-2, at No. 3 doubles.
Gustav Jigrup and
Nick Mathieu completed the Charger doubles sweep at the top doubles position with an 8-5 victory over Quentin Barthe and Ryan Mulder.
Mathieu did not lose a game in winning his No. 2 singles match. The team match was concluded when Jigrup at No. 1 and Wright at No. 3 dropped just one game in each set as they were victorious simultaneously in straight sets (6-1, 6-1).
