Women's Lacrosse Tops Maine Maritime on Senior Day

NEW LONDON, N.H. – April 21, 2018 – The Colby-Sawyer women's lacrosse team celebrated senior day with a 17-4 North Atlantic Conference (NAC) victory over Maine Maritime on Saturday afternoon.  

Prior to the game, Colby-Sawyer seniors Carli Chiodo (Madbury, N.H.), Courtney Lampert (Derry, N.H.), Nicole Lavigne (Berlin, Vt.), Molly Mulcahy (Nashua, N.H.), and Bailey Starr (Barre, Vt.) were honored for their years of dedication to the women's lacrosse program.

Colby-Sawyer improves to 8-5 overall and 4-2 in the NAC. The Chargers will travel to Lyndon tomorrow to conclude the regular season. Maine Maritime drops to 5-5 overall and 2-4 in the NAC. The Mariners will travel to Thomas on Monday to close out the NAC regular season.

Junior Sierra Schuster (Hopkinton, N.H.) led all players with seven points on six goals and an assist. Lavigne finished with three goals, an assist, and 10 draw controls. Mulcahy had two assists to move into fourth on the all-time list with 44, while Lavigne sits in sixth with 42. Chiodo and Starr also found the back of the net and Lampert played solid defense throughout the game. Freshman Allison Piracini (Tewksbury, Mass.) led all players with four caused turnovers.

Maine Maritime received two goals from sophomore Madison Savary (Bath, Maine), while seniors Morgan Libby (Brunswick, Maine) and Shelby O'Neil (Bar Harbor, Maine) added a goal apiece. Sophomore Sydney Adams (Trumbull, Conn.) led the team with five draw controls and three caused turnovers.

Savary put the visitors in front with her 21st goal of the season, just 31 seconds into the game. Colby-Sawyer regrouped and scored eight-straight goals, four from Schuster, in a 14-minute span to take a commanding 8-1 lead with 10 minutes left in the half. Savary stopped the home team's streak with her second of the game, but the Chargers tallied four goals heading into halftime for a 12-2 lead at the break.

Colby-Sawyer outscored Maine Maritime 5-2 in the second to secure the 17-4 senior day win. Each team converted 2-of-3 free position attempts in the half.

Sophomore Kailyn Lapham (Medway, Mass.) finished with six saves to earn her ninth career victory and move into a tie for eighth all-time with Alicia Foss. Mariners goalie Sierra James (Campton, N.H.) made eight saves in the loss.
