WORCESTER, Mass. - April 19, 2018 - The Colby-Sawyer women's lacrosse team was clipped by Worcester State, 10-7, in non-conference action under the lights Thursday evening.
The Chargers dip to 7-5 and will resume North Atlantic Conference (NAC) action on Saturday at home against Maine Maritime at 1 p.m. Worcester State improves to 8-6.
Senior
Nicole Lavigne paced Colby-Sawyer with six goals, seven draw controls, five ground balls and three caused turnovers.
Briana Couture added one goal.
Mattie Iaria picked up five ground balls and added a pair of caused turnovers to her team leading total.
Worcester State was led by Kaylee Krajewski's four goals. Kelly Austin and Taylor Dube had two goals apiece. Coley Hayes picked up seven ground balls.
The home team jumped in front 32 seconds into the game off the stick of Ashley Perugini. Colby-Sawyer's Lavigne tied the game five minutes later on a free position shot. With 20 minutes to go, Worcester State's Vecchiarelli went on a 3-0 run to go ahead 4-1. Lavigne added in two more tallies for the visitors on free position shots, and Krajewski slipped another in for Worcester to bring the score to 5-3 at the half.
Couture started the scoring in the second half on a free position shot to pull Colby-Sawyer within one, but the Lancers got one right back from Krajewski. Worcester State then increased its lead to 7-4 thanks to a Dube goal. With less than 20 minutes to go in the second half, Lavigne scored back-to-back goals to get the Chargers back within one. However, Worcester State finished the contest with a 3-1 spurt in the final minutes to hang on for the 10-7 win.
Kailyn Lapham made 10 saves in goal for Colby-Sawyer. Chloe O'Brien had eight saves to earn the victory for the Lancers.
