HANOVER, N.H. - March 24, 2018 - The Colby-Sawyer women's tennis team was edged, 5-4, by Wheaton College (MA) at the Boss Tennis Center on Saturday afternoon.
The Chargers drop to 14-5 and will resume action on April 4 at Saint Anselm, while Wheaton evens its record to 3-3.
The Lyons took a 2-1 lead after doubles play with wins at No. 2 and No. 3. Colby-Sawyer's top duo of
Ashley Woodside and
Yashu Yang combined for an 8-4 triumph over Ines de Bracamonte and Isabelle Garvanne to account for the lone Chargers point.
Each team then won three singles matches to give Wheaton the 5-4 victory.
Aislinn O'Connor cruised to a 6-2, 6-4 win over Jordi Katz at the third flight, while
Maddy Gemerek needed a comeback to win her No. 4 match over Connor O'Keefe 1-6, 6-2, 7-6 (4).
Lauren Blanchard collected a 6-3, 4-6, 6-1 win in the fifth slot over Allison Burton to move her into a tie for second, with teammate Woodside, in career singles wins with 55.
