NEW LONDON, N.H. – December 4, 2018 – The Colby-Sawyer men's basketball team shot 60% in the second half to outscore Norwich 49-31 and earn an 82-68 comeback victory on Tuesday evening.
Tonight's game did not count towards the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) standings. The teams will meet again on February 12 in Northfield for a contest that will impact the standings.
Colby-Sawyer improves to 4-2. The Chargers will travel to the University of New England for a 3 p.m. tip on Saturday. Norwich falls to 3-4. The Cadets will play a non-league game at Rivier on Saturday at 3 p.m.
Colby-Sawyer junior
Patrick Coffey (Westford, Mass.) led all scorers with 27 points on 11-of-16 shooting. Senior
Jourdain Bell (Manchester, N.H.) was 10-of-18 for 22 points and added five assists and five steals. He moved into 16th on the all-time scoring list with 1173 points and into t-10th in career steals with 157. Junior
Dana Bean (Franklin, N.H.) recorded a double-double of 13 points and 10 rebounds in 26 minutes of action.
Norwich was led by junior Matt Allen (Barre, Vt.) who scored 16 points off the bench. He was 6-of-10 from the floor and 4-of-5 from beyond the arc. Sophomore Jesse Davis (Woodinville, Wash.) and first-year Donovan Lewis Jr. (Savannah, Ga.) scored 15 points apiece. Sophomore Kyle Booth (Northfield, Vt.) was the fourth Cadet to reach double figures with 14 points.
The game was a tale of two halves as Norwich played well in the first and Colby-Sawyer found the offensive rhythm in the second.
Norwich scored the first six points of the first half, but Colby-Sawyer battled back to tie the game at 9-9. The teams traded the next few baskets until the Chargers received five straight points from first-year
Terrence Harvey Jr. (Smyrna, Ga.) to take a 19-14 lead. The game was tied again at 23-23 when Norwich went on a 6-0 spurt with four points from Lewis to take a 29-23 lead. Norwich would hold the lead for the remainder of the half and take a 37-33 advantage into the break.
The Cadets finished the first half 7-of-10 from three-point range, while Colby-Sawyer was just 4-of-14 from deep.
Colby-Sawyer regrouped during the break and began the second half on a 10-0 run capped by a Bell jumper and never relinquished the lead. The Chargers led by as much as 16 with five minutes to play and went on for the 82-68 comeback victory.
Colby-Sawyer outscored Norwich 34-16 in the paint and 13-0 in fast break points. Norwich finished the game 11-of-19 (57.9%) from beyond the arc and 9-of-18 (50%) from the free throw line.
