Men's Soccer Ties Saint Joseph (CT) on Senior Day, 2-2

NEW LONDON, N.H. – October 13, 2018 – The Colby-Sawyer men's soccer team tied the University of Saint Joseph (CT), 2-2, in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action Saturday afternoon.

Colby-Sawyer goes to 4-6-2 overall and 4-3-2 in the GNAC. The Chargers host Norwich on Wednesday. The Blue Jays go to 7-3-2 overall and 4-3-2 in conference play. They will travel to Albertus Magnus on Wednesday.

The Chargers put the only goal of the first half across in the 14th minute when first-year Ryan Kresco (Moultonborough, N.H.) used a spin move to get away from danger and sent a bending ball into the opposite upper corner. The goal was his team leading fifth of the season.

USJ came out of the halftime break reenergized and the offensive pressure paid off early in the frame. First-year Hayden Burbank (Southington, Conn.) carried the ball a lengthy distance to beat a defender and score a tough angle goal for his first of the season, just two minutes into the half.

The visitors went in front for the first time in the 62nd minute with a nifty play. First-year Christian LaBella (Wethersfield, Conn.) bicycle kicked a ball across the six-yard box to teammate Marcello Delvalle (Bristol, Conn.) who one-timed the ball into the back of the net.

In the 71st minute, Colby-Sawyer found an equalizer. First-year Tim Driscoll (Framingham, Mass.) took a free kick and sent the ball towards the goal where senior Noah Camelo (Marblehead, Mass.) used his head to score his fourth goal of the season.

Each team took three shots in the two overtime sessions, but could not break the tie.

Colby-Sawyer senior Shane Sacks (Huntington Station, N.Y.) and USJ first-year goalie Anes Gadun (Clinton, Conn.) each made a pair of saves in 110 minutes.
