Nell McQueeney Scores Game-Winner in OT at Castleton

CASTLETON, Vt. - September 30, 2017 - Senior Nell McQueeney (West Danville, Vt.) scored the game-winning goal six minutes into the first overtime to lift the Colby-Sawyer women's soccer team to an important North Atlantic Conference (NAC) victory at Castleton.

Colby-Sawyer pushes its win streak to six games to improve to 7-1 overall and 4-0 in the NAC. The team will step out of conference action to host Plymouth State on Wednesday at 3:30 p.m. Castleton drops to 4-5-1 overall and 3-1 in the NAC.

McQueeney netted the game-winning goal for the Chargers at the 6:02 mark of the first overtime period. Junior Hannah Fields (Shapleigh, Maine) took an outlet pass down the near sideline and fed a cross in front, where McQueeney battled through a Spartan defender to knock in the one-touch goal and give the Chargers the victory.

Castleton went in front 1-0 in the 10th minute after Ryley Nichols made a move to get around the Colby-Sawyer the defense and rip a shot into the left side of the net for her seventh goal of the season.

Colby-Sawyer answered with the equalizer less than five minutes later. McQueeney sent a through ball to the middle of the box to the racing Fields who gathered and deposited her team leading seventh goal into the back of the net.

Marissa Williams (Mattapoisett, Mass.) recorded five saves to improve to 3-0 in goal for the Chargers. Castleton keeper Kiley Baran made six stops in the loss.

The Chargers held an 11-10 edge in shots, while Castleton had an 8-4 advantage in corner kicks.
