HENNIKER, N.H. - February 18, 2017 - The Colby-Sawyer women's basketball team dropped a regular season finale at New England College, 76-65, on Saturday afternoon in North Atlantic Conference (NAC) play.
With the win, the Pilgrims clinch third in the 2017 NAC tournament with a 19-6 overall record and a 13-5 NAC record. Colby-Sawyer will be the No. 4 seed with a 12-6 NAC record and a 17-8 overall record. Both teams will host the first round of the NAC tournament on Tuesday. The Pilgrims will host Johnson State, while the Chargers will take on Maine Maritime.
Senior Tiffany Davis (Baltimore, Md.) tallied a double-double of 19 points and 11 rebounds to lead the Pilgrims. NEC also received a double-double of 12 points and 11 rebounds from senior Marjani Lillard (Bowie, Md.). Freshman Rene Hudson (Gallatin, Tenn.) scored a game-high 20 points, while Utshana Durham (Brooklyn, N.Y.) scored 15 points.
The Chargers had five players score in double figures, led by the duo of
Lexi Iannone (North Haven, Conn.) and
Amanda Calvo (South Deerfield, Mass.) who finished with 12 points each.
Emmani Robinson (Newburgh, N.Y.) scored 11 points, while
Lexie Hamilton (Sunapee, N.H.) and
Morgan Fogg (Sanford, Maine) scored 10 points each.
NEC used a 22-11 first quarter to get off to a hot start.
Colby-Sawyer cut NEC's led to single digits three minutes into the second quarter but the Pilgrims strung together seven straight points to take a 40-25 lead at halftime.
The second half swung in Colby-Sawyer's favor, as the Chargers won each quarter by scores of 22-20 and 18-16 in the fourth, but it was not enough as the Pilgrims protected their home court.
