Women's Soccer Completes Perfect NAC Regular Season

NEW LONDON, N.H. – October 22, 2017 – The Colby-Sawyer College women's soccer team celebrated senior day with a 5-1 North Atlantic Conference (NAC) victory over UMaine-Farmington on Sunday afternoon.

Colby-Sawyer ends the NAC regular season with the program's third perfect 9-0 record in the past five seasons. The Chargers are 12-2-1 overall and will be the NAC Tournament's top seed, which begins next week. UMaine-Farmington finishes the regular season with an overall record of 7-10 and a NAC record of 4-5 to earn the final spot in the NAC Tournament as the six seed.

Prior to today's contest, Colby-Sawyer honored its eight seniors for their years of hard work and dedication to the women's soccer program. The seniors include Nell McQueeney (West Danville, Vt.), Melissa Clark (Hawley, Mass.), Erin Mulready (Winchendon, Mass.), Emily Martin (Amesbury, Mass.), Corrie Hoyt (Lebanon, Conn.), Natalie Shear (Wayland, Mass.), Laura McKenna (Windham, Maine) and Morgan Winters (Hillsboro, N.H.).

The Chargers opened the scoring 2:02 into the match when junior Hannah Fields (Shapleigh, Maine) finished an assist from junior Amanda Martin (Amesbury, Mass.). The goal was Fields' team leading 11th of the season.

UMF found an equalizer, six minutes later, when freshman Leah Stevens (Ellsworth, Maine) sent a pass over the Colby-Sawyer defenders to freshman McKenna Brodeur (Oakland, Maine). Brodeur then chipped the ball over the Colby-Sawyer goalie for her team best 13th goal of the season.

The home team regained the lead in the 12th minute when Natalie Shear scored on a failed clear attempt by the UMF backline.

Amanda Martin increased the Colby-Sawyer lead in the 24th minute when she put home a rebound when Corrie Hoyt's initial shot was saved.

Hoyt added the fourth Charger goal of the first half in the 41st minute. After a foul was called on a UMF defender, Hoyt set up a free kick that she sent up and over the goalie from 35 yards out for her third goal of the season.

The Chargers tacked on a goal in the second half off the foot of sophomore Molly MacLure (Westford, Mass.). Martin set up the break-away chance with her second assist of the day.

Colby-Sawyer sophomore goalie Sam Mitchell (Chester, N.H.) played the first half and allowed one goal. Sophomore Marissa Williams (Mattapoisett, Mass.) worked 34:35 with two saves, while Natalie Shear logged the final 10:25. UMF keeper Kiana Thompson (Industry, Maine) made three saves in 77:21, while sophomore Mikayla Cameron (Monmouth, Maine) played the final 12:39.

The Chargers had a 13-5 advantage in shots and a 12-0 margin in corner kicks.
