NEW LONDON, N.H. – January 14, 2017 – Colby-Sawyer freshman
Lexie Hamilton (Sunapee, N.H.) set a single game record for assists with 16 to lead the women's basketball team to a 99-39 North Atlantic Conference (NAC) victory over Green Mountain.
Colby-Sawyer improves to 10-4 overall and 5-2 in the NAC. The Chargers travel to Lyndon on Tuesday. Green Mountain drops to 0-11 overall and 0-8 in the conference. The Eagles play at Fitchburg State on Monday.
Hamilton had eight assists in each half and surpassed the previous record of 13 held by Amy Beaton '07 and Cailin Bullett '13. Senior
Lexi Iannone (North Haven, Conn.) led all players with a career-high 29 points on an impressive 12-of-15 shooting. She made five of seven three-point attempts. Junior
Alex Danas (Middletown, Conn.) went 6-of-8 from beyond the arc to finish with 18 points. The six three-pointers tied for fourth most in a game. Junior
Morgan Fogg (Sanford, Maine) made all five of her shot attempts to finish with 10 points. She added six assists and five rebounds.
The Chargers finished with 32 assists, which tied the second most in a game in program history. The team also made the second most three-pointers in a game with 14.
Sophomore Mercedes Rideout (Nashville, Tenn.) led Green Mountain with 14 points. Freshman Taylor Hill (Ronceverte, W. Va.) collected 13 points and a game best nine rebounds. Sophomore Suzanna Moses (Strafford, Vt.) contributed eight points and seven boards.
Green Mountain opened the game with a bucket from Moses, but Colby-Sawyer's hot shooting would take over with an 11-0 run, which included three-pointers from Iannone,
Amanda Calvo (South Deerfield, Mass.) and
Alli Barrett (Kittery, Maine). The Chargers were able to turn eight Eagle miscues into 17 points and won the quarter 32-9.
The Chargers shot 60% from the floor and beyond the arc for the second straight quarter and took a 54-15 lead into halftime. Iannone had 22 points, while Danas added 12 in the first half.
Colby-Sawyer made 11-of-17 field goal attempts in the third, while the Eagles connected on 3-of-7 from three-point range to account for their third quarter field goals.
The Eagles added three more treys in the fourth, but Colby-Sawyer took the frame 19-15. Green Mountain's Hill scored seven of her 13 points in the fourth. Freshman
Abby Cooke (Nottingham, N.H.) had six points for the Chargers.
