COLCHESTER, Vt. - September 4, 2016 - The Colby-Sawyer women's tennis team recorded an impressive 8-1 victory over Saint Michael's of Division II on Sunday afternoon.
The Chargers improve to 2-1 and will travel to Plymouth State on Wednesday at 3:30 p.m. Saint Michael's drops to 0-1.
Colby-Sawyer swept doubles play in convincing fashion to take a comfortable 3-0 lead.
Ashley Woodside and
Maddy Gemerek won at the top spot 8-3, while
Evelyn Miller and
Aislinn O'Connor took an 8-5 win at No. 2 and
Lauren Blanchard and
Christine Hill combined for an 8-4 victory at No. 3.
Gemerek, O'Connor, Blanchard and Hill each won singles matches in straight sets.
Evelyn Miller played the day's longest match, but pulled through for the second straight time in three sets. After dropping the first set 6-4, Miller responded with a strong 6-1 win in the second set. She clinched her second straight victory over a Division II player with a 10-8 pro set win in the third.
