DANBURY, Conn. - September 3, 2016 - The Colby-Sawyer women's volleyball team split a pair of matches on the second day of the Colonial Invitational hosted by Western Connecticut State.
Colby-Sawyer fell to tournament host Western Conn. 3-0 in the morning by scores of 25-18, 25-18 and 27-25. The Chargers picked up a 3-0 win in the afternoon over Saint Joseph's (LI) by scores of 25-23, 25-18 and 25-20. The team is now 1-2 and will play at Lasell on Wednesday night at 7 p.m.
MATCH ONE - Western Conn. 3, Colby-Sawyer 0
Senior
Gabrielle Rodriguez (Rancho Cucamonga, Calif.) and freshman
Rebecca Straubel (Altamont, N.Y.) led the team with six kills apiece. Freshman
Micaela Cardozo (Woodbridge, Conn.) added five kills and 10 digs. Freshman
Caroline McCoy (Longmeadow, Mass.) registered a match best 18 digs.
MATCH TWO - Colby-Sawyer 3, Saint Joseph's (LI) 0
Freshman
Naarah Cox (Boston, Mass.) tallied a match-high nine kills on .571 hitting, while freshman
Rebecca Straubel (Altamont, N.Y.) added seven to lead the Chargers. Freshman
Caroline McCoy (Longmeadow, Mass.) also added a match-high 22 digs. Senior
Elyssa Clairmont (Sanbornton, N.H.) collected 30 assists.
McCoy was named to the All-Tournament team after collecting 62 digs over the weekend.
