RUTLAND, Vt. – September 21, 2016 - The Colby-Sawyer women's tennis team won its fourth straight match via a 9-0 score after defeating Green Mountain on Wednesday afternoon in North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) East Division action at Mac-Sam Tennis.
Colby-Sawyer improves to 6-1 overall 3-0 in NEAC East play. The Chargers will compete at the Grass Court Doubles Tournament hosted by Salve Regina at the Tennis Hall of Fame on Saturday. Green Mountain falls to 0-6 overall and 0-3 in conference action.
With the clean sweep in singles and doubles all of the Chargers players return home with a pair of victories on Wednesday led by top flight singles and doubles player
Evelyn Miller. Miller paired with partner
Aislinn O'Connor to take their number one doubles match, 8-1, over the Eagle duo of Jannelle O'Connell and Claire Chapman. The two visitors then each earned their own 6-0, 6-0 wins in the top two singles flights over O'Connell and Paige Vlahos, respectively.
Lauren Blanchard and
Christine Hill similarly only surrendered one game to the Eagles as the pair blanked GMC's Vlahos and Lauren Coye with Chapman taking the only game from Blanchard in third flight singles. Coye was ousted in a pair of 6-0, 6-0 sets by Hill in number four singles.
Rounding out the doubles action was
Hilary Boucher and
Michelle Lopes who scored an 8-0 victory over Ruby Santiago and Nang Hseng Leng Wann. Wann was able to earn a single game against Lopes in the final singles spot while Santiago was swept in fifth flight singles by Boucher.
